Interview with Rays’ 7th Round Pick, Logan Workman

Logan Workman is a 6-4 RHP from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. He attended Lee University where he finished his college career with a 2.13 ERA and a 20-5 record. In his 2021 campaign, Workman tossed 79.2 innings allowing only 16 ER and recording 110 strikeouts. This pure dominance from the right-hander came to the attention of the Rays organization as they took a chance on him in the 2021 MLB draft. I had the pleasure of interviewing Logan and I’ll share some of his words.

1. What was your first thought when you found out that you had been drafted by the Rays? – “I knew that the Rays have a great organization and I knew I’d be joining an incredible team.” Workman couldn’t be more right about the prestige of the Tampa Bay organization and I think he’ll be a great contributor to the program.

2. What’s your favorite pitch to throw and why? – “I love the fastball. I think that once I can get a true control that has been asked of me I think that it will be an elite pitch, along with my changeup that I feel comfortable throwing in any count.” The Rays love the high velocity fastball hurlers, so I think Workman will fit into the scheme of the organization perfectly. Logan also has a slider that he is working and he thinks could be a deadly pitch.

3. What do you believe you will bring to the Rays organization? – “I believe that I can bring a great team atmosphere as well as true pitching. I’m a guy that is willing to play any role that is asked of me to help the team win.” This is a great mindset for a young man coming into the league. I think he’ll be able to grab a role and run with it!

4. At what point in your career did you realize that you would be able to play professionally? – “It all started senior year of high school, but once I got to college I was able to get opportunities to pitch in scout day as a young freshman.” Workman took advantage of the chances that came his way in order to allow him to hear his name called on draft night.

5. Which Rays player are you most excited to meet? – “Tyler Glasnow.” – I’m not surprised that he chose the flamethrower SP since he’s aspiring to be in the Glasnow’s position one day.

  1. Hello…I went to the Rays game last night and was pushed to security in my wheelchair. Before I got there I checked with your fan services if I could bring in my Rays peanuts which I bought at the game on Friday. I was assured there would be no problem. When I went through security, they made me throw them away! It’s a pretty sorry day when you can’t bring peanuts to a ball game. I think somebody should get their story straight on what can and cannot be brought to the park, especially since the peanuts we’re purchased at the park. Thank you…Joe Scheckel.
